LMAO!!! I guess they are really desperate to get an edge.

The Target in my area has the worst selection of blu-ray and HD-DVD. The section is the same size as it was when the formats launched. 15 movies in each format is not a selection. Clearance price 5th element and get some new movies!

There's a new version of 5th element in blu-ray going to up the video rate and audio plus add heaps of extras.

You can keep them, one-hit novelties.
.....especially when the transfer of the movie is so deeply underwhelming (again).

Having seen the screen shots of both versions now I can honestly say that whilst the new AVC codec release is better than the old MPEG2 it is nothing remotely like what I'd call a great transfer.

Boy did they not go to town to improve this movie by way of apology for the first POS they put out.

It's better but still a great disappointment, they've sharpened it up a little but it's still very blocky.

They didn't do much beyond the bare minimum (some say on a par with a very ordinary HD TV 1080i image, certainly not a crisp, good & recent 1080p).
Let's put it like this they didn't take the original film negative to lowry digital (LDI DTS) to totally wash it through like wizard o' oz, etc.

That would have cost money.

...... and why should they bother when they have a fanclub only to happy to have the p*ss taken out of them with any old cr@p?

.....in fact even better that that the 'fanclub' (generally speaking) don't know their a*se from their elbow on this subject & are utterly immune to any kind of debate (other than the most ignorant and superficial) on this and will lap up and cheer on any old sh*te they care to spew out.

Still, nevermind any actual quality, roll on Spiderman 4, 5, 6, 7.....77, for PS3 eh?

This is still bad for HD DVD.

Through the holiday season Target will carry only the Sony BluRay standalone with a very visible endcap display and will expand its BluRay software selection.

They will have a few 360 AddOns in-store but they will be "hidden" at the bottom shelf of one of their glass cases. They will also have a few movie selections for HD DVD. They won't carry the standalone HD DVD players in-store.

Not a good deal at all for HD DVD. Target might as well be exclusive.

What Toshiba and HD DVD should do IMO is to try to get a similar deal with Walmart. Now that will ruffle the BDA's feathers.

Target has a lot of aisles. Sony would have to drop a lot of cash to get space on all of them. Nothing is stopping HD from buying the opposite end cap.
